Tell your doctor you’re taking PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) if you need other medicines or treatment.

What to do if you miss a pill
Take your missed pill as soon as you remember.
If you had condomless sex when you missed a PrEP pill:
if you take PREP daily, missing a tablet does not affect your level of protection as long as you have taken 4 pills in a week.
if you take PrEP on-demand, contact your clinic or doctor to find out if additional protection from PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) is recommended.
How to take PrEP
There are different ways of taking PrEP. You can take a pill every day or you can take it only when you need it.
Daily PrEP - suitable for everyone
Start by taking 2 pills on your first day. Then take 1 pill every day.
You can take the pill at any time of day, but it’s easier to remember if you take it around the same time every day.
2:1:1 on-demand PrEP - can be used for anyone having only anal sex and people who are the inserting partner during vaginal sex
Take 2 pills, 2-24 hours before having sex
after sex, take 1 tablet every 24 hours until you’ve had 2 days without having sex
2:7 on-demand PrEP - suitable for people who are the receiving partner during vaginal sex
take 2 pills, 2-24 hours before having sex
after sex, take 1 tablet every 24 hours for 7 days
Do not use on-demand PrEP if you have hepatitis B or if you’ve ever had hepatitis B.
When does PrEP start working?
